When we began building WordPress sites 18 years ago, WordPress was a fantastic new platform that allowed creators and businesses more control over editing and publishing content for their websites. Developers were building themes and plugins to extend the basic functionality, making it a solid option for almost any site owner.
In recent years, many plugin developers have moved on from WordPress to other projects or new platforms and are no longer supporting their former work, which leads to crucial functions on WordPress sites failing. We’re finding this to be more and more of an issue. In addition, hackers have continuously ramped up their efforts to break into self-hosted WordPress sites. For website owners, this often means their hosting company takes the opportunity to charge additional fees for security or backups or monitoring any time anything goes wrong (GoDaddy is particularly egregious in this respect). Some hosts, such as Siteground and WPengine are better WordPress hosting partners, but that doesn’t solve the issue of unsupported plugins degrading over time.
Today, many newer platforms are not only viable challengers for self-hosted WordPress sites but advancing beyond WordPress in ease of use, security, and design options. When sites are created on Webflow, they are hosted on Webflow. Site editors will access the backend of the site via Webflow. You’ll no longer need a separate website hosting account.
